This is the sex-linked version of the BC1 OE backcrossed to Marans. You can tell which chick is male and which is female at hatch. All chicks will hatch black. Males will have a white dot on the top of their heads. These birds are first generation (F1) olive egger hens backcrossed to a black copper marans rooster. This cross creates a mostly black pullet with the occasional copper or brown leakage in the feathering. Roosters are barred black and white with varying amounts of leakage in the hackles, wings, and saddle. Some may have muffs, crests, or feathered shanks and some will not. This backcross has a 50/50 chance of laying a dark, earthy green or a dark brown egg. Some breeders call this backcross a Moss Egger. If you for sure want an olive egg, go with the F1 Olive Egger but the color will usually not be as deep or dark as this BC1 cross. These ladies lay some of my favorite eggs on the homestead. The deep green is very unique and often has a heavy bloom giving the egg a matte finish or grey look. The hatching eggs you will receive will come from our F1 OE and will be a lighter green. The rooster in the pen is a black copper marans. The eggs shown are those expected to come out of your generation of chicks. This cross not only produces beautiful eggs but roosters are big enough for the dinner table.
