This breed will be limited this year. We had an unfortunate accident in their pen during the hot summer of 2025 which caused us to lose a number of hens. We are rebuilding and will hopefully have more available in 2027.
 
The Ellison Chocolate Egger is a proprietary multi-generational mix created on our homestead for dark eggs that is sexable at hatch. Male chicks will be mostly black with a white dot on the top of their head. Female chicks will be mostly black with no dot. Hens look similar to the Black Copper Marans with dark feathering and gold/copper hackles but in a smaller, more streamlined frame. Their feed conversation is also much better than the Marans. They may or may not have feathering on the shanks. The Ellison Chocolate Egger lays a large, usually matte, milk chocolate egg with the occasional bird laying a highly speckled or heavy bloomed egg. We get lots of purple tinted eggs from the Ellison Chocolate Eggers. We are very proud of this bird and would love to share it with everyone.
