The Ermine is a new project variety. Ermine Olive Eggers are a hybrid between the Ermine Ameraucana and the Black Copper Marans. The beautiful black and white pattern reminds me of the spots on a dalmation. Unlike the similar Splash variety which has splotches of grey throughout the feathering, or mottling, which has black feathers with a white tip, the Ermine has feathers that are either completely white or completely black. It makes for a stunning pattern. Birds may or may not have muffs, beards, and/or feathered shanks. The Ermine color does not breed true. Breeding Ermine to Ermine will produce offspring that are 50% Ermine, 25% dominant white, and 25% black. However, our breeding pens are set up with dominant white ameraucana roosters over black copper marans hens. If you purchase hatching eggs, the chicks that hatch from those eggs should all hatch Ermine. If you purchase chicks, you will be guaranteed an Ermine chick. This cross is not only a great layer but will produce a carcass big enough for the dinner table.
